Japanese Stab Stitch Notebooks
Price: £40
Stockport

Saturday 12th November 2016.
10am - 4pm.

Japanese binding, also known as stab-stitch, was the standard form for printed binding in Japan in the late 16th century. Unlike other forms of bookmaking, each page is cut to double length, folded in half and assembled pages are sewn together, the stitches passing through the blank margins next to the loose edges so then sewn edges form the spine and folds form the edges of pages. In this workshop, we will look at traditional stab-stitch techniques, as well as more modern interpretations of the craft, to make a series of notebooks. No experience necessary, all materials provided (but if you have some great paper you'd like to use, feel free to bring it with you!)
