Calling all comic book enthusiasts!

Do you like comics? Fancy creating your own character from scratch? Come along to our workshop and let comic book artist Niels Jansen guide you through the steps to create original, memorable characters. You will generate lots of ideas and then choose your favourite character from a selection of designs. By the end of the session your comic book character will make their debut in a sketch designed by you.

The aim of this workshop is to develop your ideas when working on your character designs. You do not have to be skilled at drawing – the workshop is about generating ideas and consistency in design. You will take part in a series of creative and fun exercises to get you thinking about character history and profession, followed by a “diverging design” process that will help you refine the story behind your character.

You will gain knowledge in these areas:

- How the details reflect the character's history and personality
- How to make your design fit into its intended context
- How to create a recognizable silhouette
- Ways to make the body and face emote well
- Making your level of detail consistent

So come along and stretch your imagination! This workshop is ideal for anyone with a passion for visual design, devising stories, or an interest in comic books.
